Heavy Fighting

A message to all fighters who want or wish to participate in heavy fightning (eastern, huskarl and HEMA)

We would like to invite all interested and curious participants to this year’s heavy fighting! If you are interested in alternative ways of fighting, or maybe expand your fighting knowledge, then we encourage you to participate in this year’s heavy fighting! This year we will emphasize on technical skills and proper fighting throughout the different styles, but also introduce fun tournaments. We wish and expect that all participants will contribute to the development of a fighting which mirrors a desire on how to discover and enhance technical skills. Additionally, we expect that you will join a development of both an inspiring fighting tradition and good fighting spirit where we all emerge in a heavy, tight, unique and intense fighting. When participating, we encourage you all to bring as much gear as possible, since we would like to have the ability to conduct any form of fighting style, but also be able to introduce new people to what we are training.

Tournament

Are you tired of the mandatory bridge fight? Are you tired of being steamrolled by the same team which always has bigger and taller guys than your team? Then you will not regret The Hungarian Obstacle! In this gauntlet, you will not be able to steamroll, or be steamrolled, but your team has to pass several obstacles. If you think your team both consist of both good athletic and co-operating skills, then you will be able to prove this. With this tease, further details will be revealed on site. And maybe you will win a special prize?

In addition to this, tournaments such as 1v1 and regular bridge fight will be held. If there are too few participants in total, then we will do the tournaments as a trial for next year’s tournament.

Practical

  • The official training time slot will be in between 11-13 from Tuesday to Thursday.
  • Johannes Frost Glahder and Jacob Johansen will be in charge of heavy fighting and authority of the program and following rules. All inquiries must be directed to them.
  • The standard rules for eastern style will be Wolin 2024 point of departure.
  • The standard rules will be supplemented with the possibility of cueing with spears and stabbing with swords. All should be able to live up to the standard rules, and all will only fight what they have trained; e.g. no cue or stab if not practiced.
  • Tournaments will be a possible activity for this year’s heavy fighting.
  • If you want to participate in several fighting styles, e.g. eastern and western style, then it is mandatory to remove any redundant armor when going from eastern to western style. If you wish to participate in a new fighting style, then it is an unavoidable condition that you confront any members of the Warteam before allowed participation.

Best Regards

Johannes & Jacob

What is heavy fighting? HF is a collective concept, firstly coined by Jon Reinhardt Husvegg, which I (Johannes) interpret as a concept which tries to describe the very unique spirit found when fighting styles such as eastern or huskarl. I find it very fitting for how many full contact fighters seek the heavy ironclad feeling and intense sense of close combat. It is the immersive feeling of being in the absolute heat of heavy physical, and in some ways psychological, fighting.
