About Sletten

Sletten is an international event that seeks to recreate the period 750-1050 in a Scandinavian context, what we also call the Viking Age. We welcome historically accurate reenactors from all over the world that wish to participate in an immersive experience we create wholly for ourselves.

We wish to facilitate an event for Viking reenactors focusing on fun, fighting, and knowledge sharing. It is meant as an aspirational event, where we can inspire and help each other, and develop our scene in the best way possible.

Sletten is not affiliated with any museum, company, or government entity, but is organized by a small group of people seeking to create the best possible experience for all reenactors. This is a unique format, which gives us unprecedented freedom. As we are renting the area from a local Scout Group as well as paying for firewood, toilets and all other things, there will be a fee to attend the event.

Sletten is a non-profit event, and all surplus from attendance fees will be reinvested back into the event.

Who is Sletten for?

  • All reenactors from all over the world that reenact the period 750-1050 in a Scandinavian context.
  • We welcome warriors, craftspeople, merchants, families, bards & educators.
  • Sletten is open to groups that we recognize and who subscribe to the same values
  • Historically accurate reenactors from other areas in the period are welcome, to the extent that is likely and plausible that the portrayed kit would be present in Jutland in that period. Examples: Byzantine merchant or Abbasid explorer, Germanic or Irish warrior, Kievan Rus diplomat etc.

What can you expect?

  • An immersive experience, where participants can enjoy and explore their niche, where warriors fight, blacksmiths can meet blacksmiths etc.
  • At Sletten the “museum” is open 24/7. We want to be the most authentic market in Scandinavia, day and night.
  • Participants are encouraged to participate with their skills, such as; show and tell, talks, demonstrations of their craft, and volunteering for common market projects.
  • The individual groups build and manage their own camps, and enforce internal authenticity, within the guidelines of Sletten.
  • The individual groups are responsible for their own logistics and food.

Who is behind Sletten?

A small group of volunteers makes Sletten happen each year, known as the Sletten Crew or the Sletten Orga Team. They do it year-round without pay and in their free time, just because they love it. They make up the Sletten Forening, which is a necessary legal entity to handle money, rent, and bills.

They are helped by a group of awesome volunteers to help run the event and also an international Advisory Board to help with feedback and new ideas. It is possible to become part of this crew. If you are interested, please feel free to contact us.
