Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
Exactly what is Sletten?
Sletten is an event for reenactes of the scandinavian viking period. It is a week long market, which seeks to bring together fighter, merchants, craftspeople, riders and others together from all over the world, to inspire and have fun with eachother.
Why does the event cost money to attend?
Sletten is an event without any backing of a museum or a company like most markets have. That means we have to rent the area from someone. In this case, we found the area around Sletten which has many of the things we need. The area is owned by the Scouts, and we negotiate the rent with them. It is currently around 75 DKK pr. person pr. night.
Additionally, we have to pay for firewood, extra toilets (emptying the toilets), cleaning supplies, and all the other things we need to host the event. There is only one source of income, and that is the tickets. Since we are not seeking to make a profit, we try to keep the price as low as possible, and all surplus is funneled back into the event. No one makes any money working on Sletten.
Why do we have to be authentic all the time?
We have all spent countless hours on our gear, tools, weapons, clothing, tents and so on. We want to give everyone the best possible atmosphere to enjoy these things in. That atmosphere is affectionately called “Viking Narnia” or your inner movie. Instead of only being in Viking Narnia for a few hours each day (opening hours) we want to encourage everyone to stay, also during the evenings and nights…
Is there no public to see us?
Sletten is a private event. So we have no official public, no ticket sales, and we are not interested in advertising the event in the Press or on TV. It is however held on public land, so we cannot stop people from stopping by, if they happen to discover us in the forest. But you are under no obligation to interact with them or show them things. Just be nice, and they will move on…
Are dog allowed at Sletten?
Yes, dog are allowed, but must be kept on a leash.
Arrival & Departure
What happens when I arrive, and how do I check in?
You need to check in with the Orga team responsible of Planning & Logistics. They will indicate where to go and mark that you have arrived. Check point where to find the person will be by the ‘Little house on the prairie’.
Why can't I drive my car in between monday and sunday?
Sletten is striving to be a magical place, where visually we are brought back in time. This is achieved only when we work together to bring this idea and vision to life. Having a car and driving it onto the field will burst the bubble and will be a harsh push back to reality, which we want to escape during this week at Sletten.
Will there be parking close by?
There will be a large parking area close-ish by. Depeding on the route you choose, the walk is between 0,8 to 1,2 km.
Can I arrive before sunday 20th or stay longer than sunday 27th?
No. We are in continuous talks with the Scouts, but so far, we have not been able to expand our contract with them in a meaningful way to allow this.
What time can I arrive on sunday?
You are welcome to arrive from 12 o’clock noon as there will be an Orga team representative on site.
What time can I start packing on sunday, and when do I have to leave?
You can drive your car into the camp area from 8.00 in the morning. The camp area will be closed of 15.00, so you have to be done and gone by then.
