Hello Vikings!
For 2025 the Orga Team commissioned an addition to the community awning: A gigantic oak portal. We have some plans for this portal, but we also invite you to make this portal your own.
The central motif is based on a metal detector find from Ă˜ster Lindet in Southern Jutland, dating back to the late Viking Age. The overall shape echoes the Jelling style, taken from horse harness bows, to be symbols of passage and power. Created in collaboration with Luciano Pezzoli of Children of Ash, and brought to life by the skilled hands of Ole Cramer, it draws from Viking Age art and myth.
Some rituals have already begun to form. Last year, new participants walked through the portal as a kind and soft invitation, almost as a welcoming rite into the world of Sletten. Some marched through it on their way to or from the battles. A long chain of people danced through it during the Riders Party. It might be used for quiet reflections or small personal ceremonies, that we may never even hear about.
Not everything needs to be planned. Rituals can carry meaning, or they can carry humour. The portal itself can carry layers of meaning. What will we do with the portal this summer?
